As most of you know, we have a new family member! She joined us on July 1 and our lives haven't been the same since. She is so sweet and lovable and very quickly has stolen our hearts.
Jon and I are both big dog people and have talked about getting a dog for years now. While we desperately wanted to bring a pup into our lives, we didn't feel that timing was right when we were residing in our cozy one bedroom apartment. Well in May, we purchased our first home, and we very quickly starting searching for a dog.
We felt very strongly about adopting a rescue dog, so for several weeks we searched online, attended adoption events, and researched the local adoption groups in our area. We learned that it was a good idea to get pre-approved by a rescue organization, so that in the event we found a dog we wanted to adopt, we would be able to take he/she home right away and not risk loosing it to another family.
After we filled out a lengthy application, had an in-person interview, and a home visit, we were approved and ready to find our new pup. (yes I said home visit!) We attended another local adoption event and that is where we met Sasha. She walked over, fell into our laps, and that was that.
We adopted Sasha from an organization called Lucky Dog Animal Rescue. Lucky Dog found Sasha in a shelter in Franklin County Virginia. We don't have any history on her, but when we met her at the adoption event she was very skinny. She was either a stray or very neglected. So, first on our agenda was fattening her up! She loves people and doesn't appear to have been mistreated.
When I told Sasha I was going to write my first blog post in months about her, she was thrilled. We did a brief interview and she wanted me to share it with everyone.
What is your favorite favorite color: "Red. It brings out my white and brown spots nicely"
What do you do for fun?: "I love to go on walks and bury my bones. I also am a huge fan of squirrels. I could chase them all day long" "oh I also love belly rubs, so those are really fun for me"
What is your favorite toy?: I love all stuffed animal toys, but my favorite is my stuffed duck! I can swing it around really hard and it makes a funny noise.I'm also really digging bones! No pun intended. I never saw a bone before I moved here and they are super awesome!
How is it living with us?: "I like it with you guys a lot. You give me lots of hugs and kisses and I love it when you feed me scrambled eggs"
Do you have a favorite food?: "Dad makes me a kong every morning and I really like that. I think the peanut butter is my favorite"
Who are you planning to vote for in the upcoming Presidential election?: Oh, I'm an Obama girl. I love it that I share the same name with the President's daughter!
What is the biggest surprise about living with your new Mom and Dad?: I'd say the biggest surprise for me is that I've become a big Redskins fan. Before I wasn't really into football, but now I really love watching the games. I love RGIII!
